Question I am going to be getting my second tattoo soon and I want to get my husbands name in a chinese symbol on the back of my neck, I have looked at a few on-line traslations of his name, to make sure what I am getting means what I wnat it to and almost every site its a diff. symbol, How can I make sure its correct and does anyone know a great translation site, his name is Rob, Id appreciate any help! thanks in advance
Answer Kayla,
The reason why you cannot find a CHINESE translation of your husbands name is because there is no such thing as a single symbol for western names. Kanji, whether it is CHINESE or JAPANESE uses a symbol to describe objects or descriptions. For instance to refer to a persons Grandmother they might combine the symbols for OLD, ANCESTOR and MOTHER. Chinese and Japanese proper names have meanings much like names from other cultures for an example; The persons Chinese name might be LEE which translates into PLUM in English so the Kanji symbol for PLUM would be used to signify their name. Likewise English names often also have meanings. Lets take the name GEORGE which means FARMER so you would use the KANJI symbol for FARMER to signify the name GEORGE.
My advise to you is to go to http://www.first-name-meanings.co.uk and find the meaning of your husbands name then get it translated into either CHINESE or JAPANESE KANJI which ever one suits your needs best. The best and most accurate place to find the translated symbols is BABEL FISH at URL http://babelfish.altavista.com/
I hope this has been of some help to you. If I can be of any further assistance please let me know.
