Experience I have been a member of the LDS Church my entire life. I served a two-year LDS mission in the Dominican Republic. I was married for eternity (sealed) to my beautiful wife just this year. My father has taught LDS religion classes as his profession most of my life. I have been somewhat aquainted with members of the Fundamentalist LDS faith and have some friends that were a part of that religion.

Question I am taking my family to visit the Dominican in a few short days. I would like them to have a cultural experience and go to a ward while we are in the San Juan area. Is there anything that we could take that would be appreciated by the ward we visit? We are excited!
Answer Amazing! My wife and I just got back last Friday from a week-long visit down there. It was a blast! You're really going all the way out to San Juan?!
We took a huge bag of candy and some little dollar toys for the kids. That probably wouldn't be very appropriate to hand out in church, but if you are going to people's homes, I'm sure they'd love it. We also took a few bags of beans to the homes where we knew they'd try to feed us, so we didn't feel so bad eating their food.
I know they also like all of the LDS scripture marking things as they can't get those down there (i.e. those scripture-marking picture stickers, cards, etc.). They have a small distribution center next to the Temple downtown, but they don't have any of the cool Deseret Book stuff.
Have a great trip! Hope you remember how to drive down there!! We got pulled over by a cop looking for money!
Be safe.
