Subject: Removing cast iron sink from Corian countertop

Question
We want to replace a cast iron sink which is set in a Corian counter top. The sink was installed 20yrs ago, we are not sure what the adhesive is holding the sink in position but the Corian technicians think it may be silicon. We have been told to use denatured alcohol to soften the adhesive. Could you give us some tips please?  How long will this stuff take to work?  How do we get it under the rim of the sink? Any advice you can give us will be greatly appreciated, Thank you

Answer
Most sinks have a fastner AND adhesive, to be sure the fasteners are out, or loose, first.  This is basically a knife, putty knife, razor knife, linoleum knife, ginsu knife type job.  It only takes a starting point and it gets easier.  After you get a "perferation' in the seam, start by wedging two putty knives together as a wedge.  (forget the alcohol).  Patience...get a big bottle of patience.  Be VERY sure that you have something under the sink to catch it.  It weighs a ton.
