Question
Hello Chris-

I don't know if this falls within your area of expertise, but I figure it's worth a shot:  I have a server running Winnt 4.0 and have deleted some data (it's not in the recycle bin or anything, and we don't have a good backup).  Of course, I need to do what I can to recover this data.  Do you have any software tools you can recommend to recover lost data?  Thanks in advance for any direction you may provide...

-Aaron

Answer
Hi Aaron,

Unforunately, once it's gone from the recycle bin, then the system flags the area to be removed and that area of the hard drive is usually over-written immediately.  What you would have had to do is have the hard drive installed immediately onto another system as a secondary drive so it's not used at all and then use special utility to go in and try to restore the data.  Since I don't think you caught it in time, I sincerely think that the efforts would be wasted.

Cheers,

Chris
