Melekeok

Melekeok is one of Palau's sixteen states. It is located on the west coast of Palau's largest island, Babeldaob. Melekeok is 11 square miles in area and situated between Ngchesar to the south and Ngiwal to the north. It is the planned location for the new capital of Palau (move from Koror to Melekeok in late 2006). According to the latest census 391 people presently reside in Melekeok.

Melekeok boasts the largest freshwater body of water in Palau; Lake Ngardok (493 hectares) has a small population of saltwater crocodiles Crocodylus porosus.
